The Beach Retreat cottage is a traditionally built Swahili house, converted into a beach cottage in 2010 by Zanzibar Villas Ltd. This beach cottage derives its name from its quiet and private location, offering plenty of space and absolute privacy – you feel like you should be writing a book when you sit here on the terrace and gaze endlessly at the sea and beach life parading before you. In the garden you’ll find a barbecue set, sun loungers, big sofa, tables and chairs, umbrellas and hammock. It offers you some extra shelter from sun and wind under the garden’s big trees, whilst still being on the beach.
The sea comes right up to the garden gate during the high spring tides. The cottage is situated on the most un-spoilt part of the best beach in Zanzibar, with no big resorts or loud music it retains its charm. It is a perfect location for kite-surfing and snorkeling fans, beachcombers and shell hunters.
The cottage has a good water and mains power supply, all the windows are secured but open and covered with Mosquito meshing offering maximum sea breeze through the house, one enters through the beach side front door into the lounge with the kitchen and toilet rooms through to the back of the building
The lounge is simply decorated with African paintings and furnished with two large sofas, a bureau and chair and coffee table, lamps and has a ceiling fan.
Off the lounge is the bedroom with en-suite bathroom, with hot and cold water, shower, toilet and two basins. The bedroom has two traditional antique Zanzibar ¾ sized beds, which can be pushed together to make a big double with mosquito nets and a ceiling fans, two traditionally made wood shelving/clothes racks.
The kitchen is simple, but well equipped for four people: with a gas stove, toaster, kettle and fridge freezer you will have all you need to make your own meals.
On the terrace outside the front door we have put a large dining table with 4 chairs and a large sofa for lounging in the garden there is another small table sunbeds and a hammock
Bwejuu beach
Bwejuu beach is a broad and continuous beach sheltered by a broad coral lagoon and backed by palm trees, private houses and small hotels; this is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches on Zanzibar. Its wide pure white powder sands stretch for kilometers from Dongwe village in the north to Jambiani in the south. Bwejuu offers the quietest spot with few tourists on the beach; you will feel like Robinson Crusoe. The beach at low tide offers wonderful views of seaweed ladies about their daily business of harvesting their seaweed crops and small fishermen on their traditional canoes. Sunrise is a spiritual event every morning! What a way to wake up. Later on children gather after school to search the beach for washed up shells. In the last two years, this has become one of the Mecca’s for kite surfing and snorkeling. But it will always retain an enchanted desert island feeling – lost in time, you can only give in and relax…

Situation:
The cottage is on the beach in quiet surroundings and 500m from the village shops. There are several good hotels/restaurants and some local laidback bars scattered along the beach. For a really good western style supermarket, go to SupaDuka, which is approx four kilometers away in Paje village.

We would like to state that we have very reliable and trustworthy drivers and buses which we use for some years, our cost may be higher than a local driver but be warned they are unpredictable and often unreliable, the same applies to our car hire service we work with a reliable company and it costs more! Please remember this is your choice to book our service, and don’t forget we are in Africa, not Europe!!!

NB. We would like to state that we have a very reliable and trustworthy relationship with our local car hire company which we have used successfully for some years. Our cost is higher than many local companies or individuals, who may be cheaper but probably do not have a operating license, nor proper liability insurance and tourism permits, the cars are often not serviced unpredictable and often unreliable, your car can be late, with no fuel in it and no back-up. Don’t forget we are in Africa, with all its wonders, it is not Europe!!! You don’t have many rights and there is no road side AA service!!! We advise you’re strongly not to go cheap on this option. Please remember this is your choice to book our service for which we will support you as best possible to get the best out of your holidays we can’t offer a guarantee, but a best chance, “We are not AVIS, but we do try harder” :)

The prices on this page are quoted as the basic cost for a
direct transfer in USD. It is possible to pay in EURO and GBP at our advised
exchange rates. The rates shown in the Credit card and PayPal sections below are
including the commissions we have to pay the credit card companies. We there for
wish it to be understood that this payment method is for your convince hence the
extra costs involved.

seasons; Low – Middle – High.
Rates quoted are per night for the whole villas are for the maximum persons
quoted on this website; we do NOT rent rooms or split bookings within villas. We
have a standard minimum length of stay of 3 nights in low and middle seasons and
6 nights in high season.
